Join us at Well Read Books for an evening with Erica Watson, author of Ghosts of Distant Trees, and Eva Holland, author of Nerve and No Sleep ’Til Fairbanks and editor and publisher of the upcoming Yukon: A River Anthology.
Erica and Eva will both read from their work, followed by a conversation about place, the personal, and the author’s voice.

About Erica Watson
Erica Watson is an essayist, writing instructor, knitter, and occasional community organizer living on the boundary of Denali National Park, Alaska. Her experiences in conservation advocacy, tourism, and environmental education inform her writing, which has appeared in Terrain.org and About Place Journal, among others. Her book, Ghosts of Distant Trees, was published by Porphyry Press in fall 2025. Erica is a graduate of the University of Alaska Anchorage MFA program and a recipient of an Alaska Literary Award.
Ghosts of Distant Trees
In Ghosts of Distant Trees, Erica Watson traces the layered ecologies of Denali National Park, Alaska, exploring its vast and shifting landscape, seasonal rhythms, and the subtle politics of inhabitation. Through lyric and narrative essays, she considers land, gender, weather, community, belonging, vulnerability, and life in a warming world.
About Eva Holland
Eva Holland is a writer and editor based in Whitehorse. She is currently the Western Canada Editor for Canadian Geographic and a contributing editor for High Country News. She is the author of Nerve: A Personal Journey Through the Science of Fear and No Sleep ’Til Fairbanks, a selection of her magazine work about the Yukon and Alaska. Her next project is editing and publishing Yukon: A River Anthology, a collection of nonfiction writing about the river.
No Sleep ’Til Fairbanks
For the past fifteen years, Whitehorse-based journalist and author Eva Holland has been exploring and writing about the North. No Sleep ’Til Fairbanks brings together sixteen stories from across the Yukon, Alaska, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut, exploring adventure, perseverance, community, history, and the many ways people imagine, move through, and live in the North.
